Ready.Gov

The Department of Homeland Security has developed a Website, www.ready.gov, to help you prepare for the potential threats we now face as we enter this new era of potential warfare and terrorism here at home.

Quick Study Guides

Biological Threat – A biological attack is the deliberate release of germs or other biological substances that can make you sick.

Chemical Threat – A chemical attack is the deliberate release of a toxic gas, liquid or solid that can poison people and the environment.

Explosions – Be informed if there is an explosion, if there is a fire or if you are trapped in debris.

Nuclear Blast – A nuclear blast is an explosion with intense light and heat, a damaging pressure wave and widespread radioactive material that can contaminate the air, water and ground surfaces for miles around.

Radiation Threat – A radiation threat or "Dirty Bomb" is the use of common explosives to spread radioactive materials over a targeted area. It is not a nuclear blast

Make A Plan

You should plan in advance what you will do in an emergency. This section of ready.gov helps you to be prepared to assess the situation, use common sense and whatever you have on hand to take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Make a Kit

Ready.gov helps you prepare for a possible emergency situation – fresh water, food, clean air and warmth. Take a few minutes to review their "make a kit" guidelines.
